Lexie Ausrotas, Alexander Carrasco, Emily Cuthbert, Amy Foubert, Avila Holland,
Kirsten McFarlane, Lauren Mills, Nicole Rennie, Madison Whitton and Emma
Woodhouse. A dozen Clippers also
competed in Buffalo last month. It was
neat to see the athletes race against some American competition. The club also hosted a small meet in
Orangeville at the beginning of May where 50 Clippers participated. The club is really looking forward to the
possibility of a new six lane, 25 metre pool to avoid having to go out of town
to hold meets in the non warm months.
The Clippers host their 18th
Annual Outdoor Swim Meet on June 19th and 20th at the
newly renovated Centennial Pool. Teams
from all across Ontario will be coming to town for the competition. The swim club encourages everyone to come
down and check out the action!
Sascha Keir is ranked 5th
in Canada in the recently published Swim News magazine. Amber Champion was named to the Huronia
Region Summer Games Swim Team along with Ben Cuthbert, who unfortunately had to
decline due to other commitments.
Brandon Oates was also named Head Coach of the team, which includes
athletes from Barrie, Orillia, Peterborough, Muskoka, Owen Sound and Port
Elgin. The Clippers wrap up their
season in July with Long Course Provincial Championships. Next season begins in September and the club
will have limited space, but will welcome new recruits!

Sudbury - The Collingwood Clippers Swim Club just got back from
the 2010 Division III Team Championships.
The team had one goal and that was to achieve 80 best times. They not only met the goal, they surpassed
it with 85 best times and if you count relay splits, they were just shy of
100. They finished ahead of teams from
Ottawa, Sault Ste. Marie, Sudbury, Owen Sound, Aurora, Chatham, Belleville and
London. Every athlete contributed to
the overall team success and the coaching staff is very proud of them.
The team was lead by Sascha
Keir, who cleaned up with five gold medals in the 50m and 100m backstroke,
100m IM and 200m IM, as well as the 100m butterfly. Liesbeth Froentjes qualified for Jr.
Provincials in the 50m and 100m freestyle.
She also managed to achieve gold medals in the 50m, 100m and 200m
freestyle, as well as silver in the 200m IM.
Marian Cooper had two gold medals in the 100m and 200m
breaststroke and a silver in the 100m butterfly. Madison Whitton earned a silver medal in the 200m backstroke and
a bronze in the 100m backstroke. Three
Clippers earned one bronze medal a piece, Amber Champion in the 100m
backstroke, Levi Beck in the 50m freestyle and Ben Cuthbert in the 100m
breaststroke. The female 13 and 14
freestyle relay won gold, while the female 11 and 12 freestyle and medley relay
bronze. The female 10 and under medley
relay also won bronze.
Other top eight finishers
included Lexie Ausrotas, Alexander Carrasco, Sebastian Carrasco, Larkin Casey,
Amy Foubert, Carly Foubert, Jason Langford, Kirsten McFarlane, Melodie
O'Connell and Emma Woodhouse. Corey
Mroczkowski, Holly Keir and Heidi Ohrling also had outstanding
performances. Clippers with 100 percent
best times were Alexander Carrasco, Larkin Casey, Amber Champion, Amy Foubert,
Sascha Keir, Jason Langford and Corey Mroczkowski. A special mention goes out to Avila Holland and Samantha Wong,
who were great team captains and kept everyone together.
The
Clippers had a blast swimming in the Laurentian University Jeno Tihany
Pool. The 8 lane 50 metre pool is where
former Olympian Alex Baumann trained out of.
The team is looking forward to the new Collingwood YMCA 6-lane, 25-metre
pool, however they are hoping that viewing area and deck space are added into
the plans. Without having a place for
spectators and athletes, they will never be able to hold a swim meet. Swim meets not only raise funds for the
clubs, it also generates an average $50,000 into the community for hotels and
meals.
