CLIPPERS SWIM CLUB - MERIDIAN AQUAFEST MEET

 

Barrie - The Collingwood Clippers Swim Club had 21 members attend the Meridian Aquafest Swim Meet over the weekend.  There was some fierce competition from all over Ontario, however the Clippers performed very well and had some very impressive results.  The coaches were very impressed with the athletes achieving 70 percent best times overall through this long and grueling meet.

 

Meredith Cooper, 14, led the way with one first, one second, one third, one fourth, two fifths and one sixth.  She made finals in all of her events and posted seven personal bests.  Her sister Marian, 9, had a third, a sixth and a seventh with five best times.  Shayne Casey-Shaw, 12, attained four-second place finishes, one third and one fourth.  She also had five best times at her first meet of the season.  Heidi Ohrling, 10, had one fourth, one sixth, two sevenths and two eight place finishes to go along with five best times.  Nicole Rennie, 10, had a fourth and a ninth, with four best times.  Sascha Keir, 9, had one fourth and one sixth, while attaining 100 percent best times.

 

Levi Beck, 17, made finals in every one of his races.  His top placing was sixth in both breastroke events.  He also had one seventh and one eight, while getting nine best times.  Amber Champion, 13, made four finals and had four best times.  She battled through being sick and still managed some magnificent swims.  Kirsten McFarlane, 13, had five best times and was able to move up a spot in her 200-metre breaststroke final.  Lexie Busch, 14, swam in her first ever final in the 100 backstroke, while earning four best times.  Avila Holland, 13, also swam in her first final in the 200-metre backstroke and achieved 100 percent personal bests.

 

Ben Cuthbert, 15, made finals in five of his races.  He was also able to earn ten best times.  Carly Foubert, 13, swam her first finals in both the 100-metre and 200-metre breaststroke.  She also had five best times.  Her sister Amy, 11, had six best times and competed very well against a tough 11 and 12 age group.  Liesbeth Frontjes, 12, earned 100 percent personal bests and placed fourth and sixth in the 50-metre and 100-metre backstroke respectively.  Michaela Klasen, 12, swam only on Sunday, but still managed to get four best times.  Emily Cuthbert qualified in a couple of events and managed to get a best time.  Jason Langford, 12, had a great meet earning a couple of best times before getting injured and having to sit out for the rest of the meet.  Madison Whitton, 11, was able to get three best times and swam very well in her tough age group.  Samantha Wong, 15, had four best times and had some great performances amongst a tough class of senior girls.

 

The Clippers head to Port Elgin next weekend and are planning to win the overall team high point trophy.  The swim club is always welcoming new athletes.  For more information, please contact head coach Brandon Oates at (705) 293-SWIM (7946).
